The thought of Greg with the broom and colander reminds me of Dave armed in our "Stairway to Heaven" with a big pot, a lid, and oven mitts trying to catch the squirrel that had decided to take up residence there. After a few minutes the squirrel made a run for it, I opened the front door and the squirrel just ran out. Will was watching the whole production and as the squirrel ran past him and I slammed the door closed, he just looked at me as though it was an every day occurance. Was pretty funny!

I suspect that in the colander man vs. raccoon grudge match, the coons would win. So maybe you can try this - I've heard that cat food around the edges of a flower or veg patch keeps the squirrels away. Not sure but it might help with other animals too. Also moth balls and/ or hot pepper flakes keeps raccoons away. In theory. In practice, they don't care. The best defense is a shot gun.
