I've actually had to develop a "paying jobs come first" policy when it comes to my freelance work, but I still have a tough time saying no to people. A more cynical person might look at some of the pro-bono work I've done and say that there's a benefit to it in terms of my reputation as a designer/art director/photographer, which is true, I suppose, but that's not why I take on those jobs.
